What exactly is Huella Natural Meat?
Meat sold under Carrefour Argentina's "Huella Natura Meat” brand comes from animals exclusively reared out in the open air throughout their lives. Our animals are reared in open pastures, so the meat they produce is thin. We work alongside Argentinian livestock farmers, preserving the country's pastures and natural fauna.
Carrefour Argentina is the first and only retailer to have launched a line of sustainable certified meat products, providing customers with guarantees that the animals are not reared in industrial livestock facilities.
Why do we need to take action?
As intensive farming has increased over the last few years, Argentina's natural pastures and their biodiversity have been reduced. Authentic Argentinian beef cattle rearing is on the wane and has been replaced by a more profitable form of livestock supply. The intensive industrial livestock farming model is now attracting a great deal of criticism, with questions being asked about animal welfare and environmental impact.
Is this really so new?
Today, 75% of Argentina's livestock comes from industrial livestock farms (Source: IPCVA). "Huella Natura" meat is the first and only SENASA-certified meat made from beef cattle reared and fed in natural open pastures throughout their entire lives.
What is the long-term aim?
We are about to launch a Carrefour "Huella Natura” hamburger made using meat from certified animals.
Our aim is to offer customers – and expand sales of – varieties of cut-to-order meat in more and more of our stores so as to provide them with alternatives that everyone can afford.
Isn't this just twaddle?
Cut-to-order meat and hamburgers are packaged in SENASA-certified products, in application of resolution 280/2001. We guarantee and comply with all traceability criteria – annual inspections are conducted out in the field and in refrigerated warehouses.
We also work with the Argentina Poultry NGO.
